Ans: The abbreviation U.N.O. stands for United Nations Organization. The U.N.O was formed after the Second World War in 1945 to prevent future wars in the world. The people were worst hit by the destruction, misery, and poverty caused by war. They were sick of the wars and wanted peace and prosperity in the word. Consequently, the human conscience was roused. They wanted end to the wars and brotherhood and fraternity prevail in the world. Thus the nations of the world came together to work for Global peace, hence U.N.O was formed. The UNO has its objectives to wipe out war and its reasons from the world. For this reason the UNO invites the people of the world to sit together and sort out the problems which cause war and affect the peace in the country.

Q2: What are the aims and functions of the U.N.O.?
Ans: The aims of the UN are facilitate international security promote world peace protect human rights help developing countries by funding promote better relations between countries promote social, economic and cultural  development facilitate international law

Q3 :How successful has the U.N.O been so far, in preventing wars?
Ans:The U.N.O has so far failed miserably in preventing wars. Indeed, the path of peace maker is very hard. The world is full of quarrels between nations. Emotions run high. It requires high politics to settle the matters between countries. It is very difficult to prevent war, so the job of the peace maker is indeed very hard. The attempts to bring peace in the world are sometimes open to misunderstanding. Thus the UNO is not a success story in preventing wars; however it has to a certain extent been successful to remove the causes of war, poverty, disease, and injustice at least in some parts of the world.

Q4: What part of the work of the U.N.O appears to have provided the most promising results.
Ans: The most promising results of the UNO so far has been its fight against the social evils. Men and women from different parts of the world sit, think, plan and work together, to improve the conditions of life in countries they have not known before. At UNO people from almost all the parts sit and work together. Thus one way of preventing wars is to work for the prosperity of the people and remove the causes of wars among the nations.

Ans:War is a social evil. When we have disparity in society it gives rise to the negative values of life such as jealousy, hatred, ill will, prejudice, mal-administration, unsatisfactory state of affairs, discontent, poverty, ignorance, disease social and political injustice. The war can be prevented by maintaining the harmonious atmosphere of equality. The war may also be prevented by curbing the negative values and by advancing the cause of brotherhood among the nations of the world.


Q 8: What is the motto of the U.N.O?
Ans: The motto of the U.N.O is 'Patriotism'. In the larger sense it means that we should not only love our own country but all the countries of the world. Today patriotism means not only love ones country but also support UNO and its ideals. Thus on 24 October, every year on UN day, all the member countries of UN pledge a new to promote UN and its ideals.

Ans: In 1945 the Second World War ended and brought with it misery, disease, poverty. hunger, restlessness, destruction of lives and the property on large scale in the world. Ans: At the end of the Second World War, the world was advancing in communication such as the telephone, the telegraph, the wireless. These were helping the quick exchange of news and information. The advancement in communication was minimizing the distances. People were becoming one in many things, they thought why not in all the things. Besides, with the invention of the airplanes, it was linking the distant parts of the world. Poverty and misery in part of the world affected other parts of the world. No one could close eyes on the suffering and misery of other people.

Ans: The secretary General is the chief officer of the UN and he has important political and administrative responsibilities. He has to present the account of the whole year performance of the UNO. Ans: There is staff of three thousand five hundred people working directly under the secretary general.
